THE possible effects of coastal erosion and inundation in Port Fairy will be on display in shops over the busy summer period.
The Port Fairy Coastal Group’s “poster project” was launched yesterday and aims to discover how the community uses the town’s coastline and which areas it values most.
Community members and visitors will be asked to complete a survey, with responses used to help determine long-term management plans.
Chairman of the Port Fairy Coastal Group Nick Abbott said the six posters show key areas that would be affected, based on the findings of a coastal hazards assessment completed in 2013.
“It will allow the state government and the Moyne Shire to understand how visitors and residents use the coast prior to making significant decisions on how to deal with sea level rises and coastal erosion,” Mr Abbott said. Moyne Shire mayor Colin Ryan said the project was a perfect example of community, council and government working together.
The posters will be displayed in Port Fairy eateries, with survey forms available in the stores or online at www.pfcg.org.au
