The Stop the Mosque in Bendigo page has been reactivated on Facebook, after the page's administrators successfully appealed Facebook's ruling to remove the page for inciting hate speech.
A post on the page reads, "Facebook listened to our appeal... thank you guys...were back! (sic)"
Peter Bolt then comments: "time to get rid of these grubs.
"I mean the Mosque supporters."
EARLIER: The 'Stop the Mosque in Bendigo' page has been removed by Facebook after many residents reported it for hate speech.
A Bendigo resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said Facebook's message advising her of the page's removal came through about 3am on Tuesday.
She said she chose to report the page to Facebook because it was unfair to Muslims and made her embarrassed.
"I believe the page is hate speech and I don't think that the average Muslim person living in Bendigo should have to see the stuff that was on that page. The page promoted hate, fear and misguided intolerance and made me embarrassed to live in Bendigo," she said.
Another resident Tara Harding wrote later on Facebook: "This was a great community effort by many of the Bendigo residents. I'm happy to say I too received a notification this page was shut down after reporting the page in July."
Facebook user Shannon Wallace wrote: "Best part of my morning was waking up to that notification."
The message from Facebook advising those who reported the page, read as follows:
"We reviewed the page you reported for containing hate speech or symbols. Since it violated our community standards, we removed it.
"Thanks for your report. We let Stop the Mosque in Bendigo know that their page has been removed, but not who reported it.
Facebook's community standards relating to hate speech are found at facebook.com/communitystandards and reads as follows:
"Facebook does not permit hate speech, but distinguishes between serious and humorous speech.
While we encourage you to challenge ideas, institutions, events, and practices, we do not permit individuals or groups to attack others based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition."
