Coach Andrew Thomson added theory-based sessions to the team’s build-up, focusing on game style, in a bid to claim the college’s second Schools Sport Victoria championship in five years.
“All the boys play senior hockey in Warrnambool so they have got plenty of touch,” Thomson said. “It’s more about them playing together with the same game style.”
The side will include 16 players, including three elevated from the intermediate team for what shapes as a gruelling day.
Warrnambool College faces three matches, two against metropolitan teams and one from the country, with the top side after those matches progressing to a championship decider.
Thomson said the draw was yet to be completed so their opponents were unknown, although he suspected defending champion Melbourne High would be in their pool. “We lost the in the first game to Melbourne High last year and they will be the team to beat again.
“We usually get them in the first game so if we can win that, we will be in with a big chance.”
