The 2Wheel Babes rally from November 14 to 16 is expected to attract up to 200 mainly female participants from as far as Queensland and Tasmania and inject hundreds of thousands of dollars into the local economy.
Organiser Debb Dagger said Warrnambool was chosen because of its proximity to the Great Ocean Road, facilities and biker-friendly community.
She has been running similar events in Ballina for the past five years and decided to go south after numerous requests from Victorians, Tasmanians and South Australians.
“Warrnambool was the first location chosen for a southern rally,” she told The Standard.
“It’s going to be an action-packed weekend from Friday through to Sunday featuring a show ’n’ shine, rider training, market day and dress-up theme night. We’ll also be raising money for charities — A Start in Life Foundation, the Battens Organisation and for a community in Papua New Guinea.”
Ms Dagger said most rallies were male-dominated and she saw an opening to cater for females.
“Our events promote, embrace, encourage and celebrate women who love motorcycles, no matter if they are a rider, pillion or an admirer,” she said.
“We also support riders of scooters, Spyders (a three-wheeler brand), trikes, quads and dirt bikes. Our rallies are now internationally recognised and I’ve been asked to organise events in New Zealand and the UK.
“There are 240 women registered for next month’s rally in Ballina and we’ve already had 50 register so far for Warrnambool, which will be based at the Lady Bay resort. Co-operation from the Warrnambool district community has been absolutely wonderful.”
Registration details are on the 2WheelBabes website.
