The “walk in the park” on August 31 will coincide with a larger awareness walk in Melbourne on the same day.
Warrnambool organiser Andrew Suggett is encouraging support from service clubs and sports groups as well as friends and families of sufferers.
“There would be some people with Parkinson’s who suffer alone,” he said.
“We want the general public to join us and show support which will create a positive message for sufferers. There will be a $5 participation fee to cover expenses and participants will be given opportunity to have personalised messages on their back.”
Mr Suggett, of Warrnambool, is vice-president of Parkinson’s Victoria and chairman of the governance and research committee. As a sufferer himself he is co-ordinator for the local support group.
“Parkinson’s Disease doesn’t seem to get the same level of assistance and support as other chronic diseases,” he said.
“Some medications are very expensive with no federal rebates.”
The walk will start at the Harbour Pavilion at 11am and proceed to Worm Bay Road and return on Viaduct Road to the pavilion.
Mr Suggett can be contacted on 0418 149 663.
