Herbert, a rookie drafted player, was upgraded to the Gold Coast’s senior list late last week and was named an emergency for Saturday afternoon’s Q-clash against Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.
But 90 minutes before the match, the former North Ballarat Rebel was named as a late inclusion for injured Sun Michael Rischitelli in the round 18 AFL contest.
Herbert, 20, started the match as the Suns’ sub but he was injected into the match early in the first quarter when forward-ruckman Charlie Dixon was injured.
Herbert then suffered an ankle injury in the Suns’ 16.14 (110) to 8.8 (56) loss but battled on.
