The 3600-metre jumping race turned out to be a sensational event, with the Ciaron Maher-trained favourite Bashboy pulled out of the race by jockey Steven Pateman near the 1400-metre mark.
McLean described Maythehorsebemagic as a tough horse following his six-length win over Cats Fun and Regina Coeli in the feature jumps race.
“Maythehorsebemagic has a huge leap. It’s like he’s got springs in his legs,” he said.
“It’s great to win the Mosstrooper on him because it’s an icon race on the jumps racing calendar. ”
Bashboy, which had never missed a place in his 11 jumps starts, failed to respond to Pateman’s urgings with a lap to go.
McLean’s day started off in fine style when he won the maiden hurdle on the Gai Waterhouse- trained Galiando. The former UK galloper gave Waterhouse her third individual jumps winner for the season, following hot on the heels of wins by Tenby Lady and Valediction.
