Warrnambool mates Aidan Nicolson and Adam Finch are about to do just that — embarking on a journey to raise money for the Cancer Council. The pair will take part in the Mystery Box Rally starting August 23.
The rally will cover 2500km in five days, starting and finishing in Brisbane. Their ’Booligans team, paying homage to Warrnambool, will be one of 50 two-man teams taking part.
Between now and then, the ’Booligans will be working hard to raise $3000 — the minimum amount each team has to raise for the Cancer Council — before they can undertake the journey.
A budding comedian, Mr Nicolson has planned a comedy night to be held at the Seanchai on June 27. All money raised from the night would go towards the ’Booligans’ entry fee for the rally.
“The rally is going to be great fun and obviously it will be fantastic to raise money for the Cancer Council,” Mr Nicolson said.
“Having the comedy night is a good way to give up-and-coming comedians a go and give everyone a night out and raise money at the same time.”
The night will feature up to a dozen performers, including some visiting comedians from Melbourne.
Mr Nicolson said there were still some spots up for grabs and is keen to hear from any comedians wanting to take part. Team ’Booligans is also planning a trivia night and is encouraging any businesses willing to help out with prizes for the night.
The Mystery Box Rally entrants will leave Brisbane knowing they will be back there in five days, but not knowing the route they will take until they turn on their engines to start the rally.
And another surprise awaits the teams — an auction the day before the rally will determine who drives what vehicle. As the cars are wheeled out one-by-one, teams will have to make their choice. Each car is valued at $850, roadworthy and registered.
“It is fair to say the cars won’t be of the highest quality so we will not be getting too technical,” Mr Nicolson said. “It will be more a case of picking the one that looks the most comfortable to sit in for five days.”
