League selectors have finalised the 10 netballers who will take on the Colac and District league at Colac on May 24
The squad, coached by Old Collegians mentor Lisa Arundell, is replete with players who can hold their own in the attacking or defensive goal circle.
But Arundell was also upbeat about her midcourt options, adamant the squad was stronger than the one which contested the Western Regional State League.
Six of the 12 clubs have representation, with Timboon Demons supplying Hayley Plozza, Kelly Plozza and Cloe Marr — the most players of any club.
Old Collegians premiership players Meagan Forth and Steph Townsend also feature, with Townsend likely to have a role at wing attack.
Lisa Anders, Melissa Burt (Deakin University), Kelly Mullen (Kolora-Noorat), Steph Jamieson (Allansford) and Chantelle Moloney (Merrivale) complete the squad.
Arundell is pleased with the calibre of netballers who had put their hands up to play, despite the squad missing some of the best players in the league.
“We’ve had a couple of really good training runs and we will be training again next week,” she said.
“We’re very lucky in that they’re all experienced players.
“It’s making my job so easy, because they’ve all done these things before, just not necessarily with each other. They’re combining fantastically.”
Arundell said Hayley Plozza and Jamieson combined well in the goal circle during trials, which could push Townsend out to wing attack.
“It’s like they’ve been playing together for years.
“And Steph Townsend plays an absolute ripper of a wing attack and she relishes that.”
Arundell is upbeat about the inclusion of the unheralded Mullen and Marr, who will join Anders in the backcourt.
Selectors have also finalised the 17 and under and 15 and under squads.
Raewyn Poumako has the reins of the 17s while Chris Van Kempen will take charge of the 15s.
