The occupants abandoned the car and fled on foot after it hit the bridge, which crosses the Merri River on Stanley Street in South Warrnambool.
Warrnambool police said white railings were damaged in the accident which happened about 5pm.
Police are looking for the owner and driver of the vehicle but believe there were no injuries because each of the four occupants fled the scene on foot.
Witnesses are asked to contact the Warrnambool police station or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Warrnambool City Council staff assessed the bridge and found no structural damage. It was reopened late Saturday.
A police officer told The Standard yesterday the culprits were still to be apprehended and it was unknown if the car had been stolen.
