Mr Swifte, 68, was a member of the Port Fairy Men’s Shed for three years and was serving as secretary when he died. He had also been a Port Fairy Folk Festival construction crew volunteer for three years.
Mr Swifte died when his car collided with a truck at the intersection of the Cobden-Stonyford Road and Shenfields Lane.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma, and sons Nigel and Mark.
Men’s Shed president Ralph Leutton paid tribute to Mr Swifte and his contribution to the community.
“Roger was a wonderful worker for the Men’s Shed and for the Folk Festival and his death has left everyone in shock,” Mr Leutton said.
“He was such an active person and he loved rolling his sleeves up and getting things done and he was very talented with his hands.
“He and Thelma were a dynamic duo. They were the life of the party and we will continue to do what we can to support Thelma.”
