A small group put their limbs to hard work on Sunday as part of a pop-up boot camp at St Joseph’s oval.
Personal trainer Mel O’Keefe said two different sessions in Warrnambool and Woodford had sweated it out to raise funds to help Warrnambool’s Bryn Murfett undergo stem cell treatment.
There has been an outpouring of community support and generosity since last year when Mr Murfett was paralysed following a car accident in Thailand.
“We probably had about 26 on the day and we raised $620 between Woodfood and Warrnambool,” Ms O’Keefe said.
“We did all bodyweight activities.”
Ms O’Keefe has her personal reasons for helping the Murfett family.
Her father became quadriplegic after breaking his neck when she was just four.
Ms O’Keefe’s session was also aided by well-known personal trainer Mic Andrew, from Bendigo.
The prominent fitness guru promised to help out Ms O’Keefe for a charity event in Warrnambool after meeting in Melbourne.
“Naturally I chose the 4Bryn appeal,” she said.
“He (Mic Andrew) was very theatrical and it was a lot of fun.”
“We had no injuries and everyone survived the morning.
“We hope to do another one next year.”
