Leading Australian jockey Damien Oliver and horse trainer Peter Moody, known for his work with Black Caviar, are among the big names involved in the Sport Lovers Night at St Pius X Primary School.
AFL journalist Mike Sheahan and TVN’s Richard Callander and Bruce Clark are also taking part in the fund-raiser.
Sports broadcaster Hamish McLachlan will MC the event.
Club committee member and co-ordinator Dallas Ludeman said the Sport Lovers Night was always a huge success.
“It has been really successful over the past few years, with about 350 people there. This year we can seat about 500 at St Pius,” Ludeman said.
The event is the brainchild of former Carlton footballer Adrian Gleeson and Koroit identity John Bushell.
Ludeman said attracting big names for the night was thanks to timing the event, which coincides with Warrnambool’s May races.
“We have a lot of support from Adrian Gleeson, a former Koroit player. He has a lot of contacts in Melbourne,” he said.
“Timing it with the races gives us the ability to use those guys when they come down to watch the races.”
Ludeman said Sheahan would conduct an On The Couch session, in the vein of his Fox Footy show.
He said events such as the Sport Lovers Night were imperative to the survival of the Koroit club.
“Koroit’s population is about 1500 or 1600, so we are only a small community,” he said.
“Raising funds is essential to compete in the Hampden league.”
