It will provide opportunities for young people to gain training and experience in environmental and heritage conservation.
Wannon MP Dan Tehan said groups in the electorate could bid to host a Green Army, with potential projects including restoring and protecting habitat, weeding, planting, cleaning up creeks and rivers and conserving cultural heritage places.
“I will be working with local community groups to fight for more projects to be delivered locally,” he said.
“Participants will be paid an allowance and undertake accredited training.
“Applications open on April 14 and close on May 9, but projects must be ready to start between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015.”
