Firefighters were called to the home at Woodford just after 6.30pm and found it "well alight".
Warrnambool station leading firefighter Troy Cleverley said the fire started in the kitchen and quickly spread into the roof.
He said a family was home at the time of the blaze but all escaped without injury.
"It's burnt out most of the roof, I'd say a conservative estimate would be $200,000 damage," he said.
"Three tankers from Warrnambool, two from Koroit and one from Woodford attended.
"It took about half an hour to bring the blaze under control and firefighters remained on site until about 9pm."
