Peter’s Project board spokeswoman Vicki Jellie said the Peter’s Project Foundation would operate as an auxiliary to the radiotherapy centre and continue to support regional cancer services and the users of the new facility.
Mrs Jellie said the decision to continue the work of the Peter’s Project Foundation was in response to community wishes and expectations.
She said all funds raised above the $5 million target the community was contributing to the centre would remain in the trust and continue to benefit regional cancer patients for years to come.
“We will be able to help finance ongoing requirements for patient comfort within the facility, support regional chemotherapy and offer scholarships, assist with costs for up skilling and training for cancer-related staff and volunteers.
“It’s an exciting time and there is a bright future for cancer care in south-west Victoria and the south-east of South Australia,” Mrs Jellie said.
“It has been a team effort to raise the $5 million for the community contribution towards our regional cancer centre — and we are nearly there.
“Only $500,000 to go and our amazing community will have achieved its goal.
“The support we have had from everyone for the past five years, combined with the current ongoing efforts of our community, are crucial to our future success.”
