Camperdown police Sergeant Sally Slingsby said emergency services were called to the farm on Hawks Nest Road between Colac and Camperdown after the accident about 5.30pm on Monday.
She said the 23-year-old farm worker was trying to clear a jammed hay-mixing machine when he suffered a severe cut to his right leg.
“He nearly had his foot amputated when he was trying to clear the jammed hay mixer,” she said.
“He was still able to call for assistance and was flown by air ambulance to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne,” she said.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man suffered a serious ankle injury.
A WorkSafe spokesman said an investigation into the accident was under way.
A spokesman for The Alfred hospital yesterday said the man was in a stable condition.
