The group held its first day for 2014 on Wednesday and coach Sharyn van Someren said at least one more pony was needed to be able to offer classes to older clients.
“We are looking for a pony that’s between 13 and 14.2 hands,” Ms van Someren said.
“As a group we own three ponies and have the use of another four as required, but we really need a pony of that size available to borrow.
“It would allow us to offer classes to a wider ranger of clients.”
Mrs van Someren said the pony would need to have a “beautiful temperament” and enjoy being around children.
“We’d love to hear from someone with an older pony that is calm and is used to being around people,” she said.
Mrs van Someren said anyone who thought they may have a suitable pony could contact her on 5560 6222.
RDAV is a not-for-profit organisation that gives people with a disability a chance to develop independence, a sense of freedom and to reach their equestrian goals. Mrs van Someren said the Warrnambool branch had more than 35 regular clients, supported by about 30 volunteers.
She said Wednesday’s first session of 2014 was wonderful.
“We inducted our new volunteers and had all the clients out to be fitted up for their boots and helmets,” she said.
“Then we had an off-horse session, where the clients could groom the horse and get to know them. The smiles on the faces were just wonderful.”
