Cash stolen in Port Fairy pub break-in

POLICE are investigating a break-in at Port Fairy’s Royal Oak Hotel early Saturday morning.

Detective Senior Constable Gary Greene, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said offenders forced open a window about 5am and cash was stolen from an office.

Warrnambool crime scene police examined the hotel at the weekend and are looking at security camera footage.

At Heywood, a 17-year-old youth has been charged with burglary and thefts at the town’s pool and shire offices. The charges relate to break-ins at the Heywood pool and the Glenelg Shire Council offices in Heywood, as well as the theft of a vehicle.

Police recovered confectionery items allegedly stolen in the burglaries.

The pool and shire offices have been broken into a number of times in recent months.
