He considers a 24-hour childcare centre will be necessary in the future to handle the city’s expanding population.
And he would be prepared to build one in one of his company’s new north Warrnambool estates if there was an identified market.
“If we thought it would be beneficial, yes, we would build one,” he told The Standard after airing the concept with Premier and South West Coast MP Denis Napthine.
“Warrnambool will need a 24-hour childcare centre and creche running at night time.
“There are plenty of shift workers at the dairy factories, hospital, police station and ambulance station who have children. Plus there would be occasions when parents might want a night out or have commitments when they need a childcare service.
“It would be staffed by qualified staff and run as a professional enterprise.”
Warrnambool already has six child centres run by the city council and commercial operators, plus several home-based child-care services and creches, but none operates 24 hours.
