The former Warrnambool midfielder will push for a round one WAFL debut after signing with the Demons.
Hunt, 23, said he was over a niggling groin injury which curtailed his 2013 season and would use practice matches to press his claims for a call-up for Perth’s season-opener against Claremont on March 22.
Hunt will be rested from one of the Demons’ practice matches but is hopeful it won’t hinder his chances of an early season debut in the top grade.
“I am looking forward to it. It’s good to get a chance and practice matches are coming up,” he said.
“I am back to full training. Training has been a fair step up.
“I am getting used to training at a high intensity all the time and training so often, so I have had to knuckle down and work on my fitness and skills.
“I want to play league games, so hopefully in the practice games I will put my best foot forward.
“I think they see me playing as a high half-forward and on a wing and that’s where I have been training.”
Hunt arrived at Perth with VFL experience, having played for Collingwood, and with two Hampden league premierships to his name.
The former Maskell medallist, who has also overcome significant shoulder injuries, said he had adjusted well to the Perth lifestyle.
“It’s a beautiful city and the climate is good and it’s good training with people who have played AFL,” Hunt said.
“The training is testing. You’re training in the heat all the time.
“You play in dry weather a lot and the grounds are big and everyone is quite quick.”
