Jason Buchanan, 42, of Castle Carey Road, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to twice threatening police officers while in custody and breaching intervention orders.
Magistrate Peter Mellas questioned what Buchanan had done about his anger issues considering his prior offences of breaching intervention orders, damaging property, assaults and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
He said Buchanan had been jailed for five months after breaking a previous order.
The magistrate said it was about time Buchanan questioned himself.
“He’s carrying baggage. He’s a very angry man at heart. He’s a risk of doing the same thing again,” Mr Mellas said.
The magistrate deferred sentencing until September 1 to give Buchanan time to address his issues and a written report is to be prepared for the court during the period of judicial monitoring.
Mr Mellas had Buchanan agree to the course of action, explaining he could easily just impose a suspended jail sentence but he was sure that would be breached.
Police allege that mid-last year Buchanan was one of nine prisoners in the Warrnambool cells and he was continually locked down because of his aggressive and abusive behaviour.
He twice threatened a sergeant, saying he would catch up with him when he got out of custody and rip off his head.
Defence counsel Kiernan Celestina said his client received a letter while in custody and three times wrote love letters to his former partner during the breakdown of their relationship which breached intervention orders.
He said Buchanan had found it difficult integrating back into the community after serving time in jail but he was now trying to put his past behind him with the support of his family.
