Leishman was defeated on the 22nd hole after the pair was all square after 18.
Garcia made a birdie three at the fourth extra hole to seal the win.
Such was the quality of the golf, Leishman was four under par for the 22 holes.
The Warrnambool professional made a flying start to the match, he was two up after three holes but Garcia drew level on the 11th before going one up on the next hole.
Leishman hit back on the 14th and 15th holes with birdies to regain the lead. But Garcia levelled the match on the 17th ensuring a thrilling finish.
