The recently retired Mackay couple, aged in their mid-60s, were heading west about noon yesterday when they lost control of their Mitsubishi vehicle and 7.6-metre caravan.
The vehicle and van rolled onto the opposite side of the road. Police said there was no alcohol or speed involved and they were investigating whether a mechanical fault was the cause.
The couple escaped serious injury but were taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital for observation.
Leading Senior Constable Mick Walters, from Warrnambool Highway Patrol, said the four-wheel-drive and caravan suffered significant damage.
