Les Johnson and Frank O’Shannessy trailed Warrnambool pair Brian Lenehan and Steve Mitchell by 11 shots late in their 18-end quarter-final yesterday.
But they seized momentum on the final five ends, capturing 12 shots — including a six on one end — to snatch a 19-18 win at the Cramer Street green.
The win was one of two for the Dennington pair. They also had to defeat Timboon duo Daryl Wiggins and Peter Baker in the morning, 21-16.
In other quarter-final results, Lawn Tennis brothers Robert and Ian Prout outlasted Terang representatives Leo Meade and Robert Francis 19-16.
Port Fairy duo Chris Fox and Wayne Heard took the win against Mortlake pair Kevin O’Shannessy and Tony Threlfall 24-12.
And two-time champions Shane Cashill and Alan Bell, of Koroit, kept their hopes alive by beating Bill Square and Daryl Andrew from City Memorial. The semi-finals are at Dennington on Sunday.
