Warrnambool Basketball Incorporated made the announcement this morning, after the Seahawks and Mermaids committee advised the board there was no longer senior player depth, commitment or off court support to compete.
Board chairman Shane Dean praised the efforts of Seahawks and Mermaids Chairman Sue Grant and newly appointed Mermaids coach Matt Smith.
"Sue and Matt have put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort to assemble a committed group- both on and off the court - but disappointingly for Warrnambool, the south-west region and BigV, they have been unable to meet the requirements set down by the board for a team entry this year." Dean said.
Dean said the club would look to retain the services of Matt Smith and now focus on the best way to re-enter the women's competition in 2015.
