The pop-up bar will continue to serve drinks for another nine days, finishing with a joint fund-raiser for Peter’s Project and 4Bryn.
Manager Edward Mahony hopes to launch the bar next summer, encouraged by those seeking out a slice of Melbournia in the laneway.
“There’s been a really positive reaction from people coming in — they hope it will become an annual event,” Mr Mahony said.
The bar irked some nearby publicans in December, who questioned whether similar permits would be available to them in the future.
But Mr Mahony said The Laneway Bar’s 11pm closing time meant most headed to neighbouring venues after.
“It’s not there to put anyone off edge, it’s just there to offer a taste of something different,” he said.
“It’s revitalised the CBD.”
The bar’s opening night in December raised up to $2000 for Peter’s Project.
About 20 per cent of sales since then have gone towards the campaign for radiotherapy services.
The Laneway Bar will call last drinks for its fund-raiser on February 9.
