Gemma, 17, represented runner-up Victoria at the Cricket Australia-backed under 18 girls’ national championships, which finished in Ballarat on Tuesday.
The pace bowler labelled her tournament disappointing.
Gemma played in three of Victoria’s eight games and missed out on a grand final berth.
She finished with one wicket from six overs and batted once, coming in at number 11 against New South Wales in the opening game and making one run. The Brauer College student said she was content to do what was “best for the team”.
“I didn’t have a very good tournament,” Gemma said.
“I wasn’t doing well and there were people who were doing well (and they got picked).
“I tried to get involved as much as I could.”
Gemma, who represented Victoria at under 18 level as a bottom-age player in 2013, lamented her second campaign.
“I had a bad week. I did do my knee but that wasn’t much to do with it (my form),” she said.
“It was an old injury which just flared up. We had a few injuries, seven of 13 were injured.”
Victoria suffered a two-wicket loss to New South Wales in the decider.
“It was exactly the same as last year unfortunately,” Gemma said of the grand final match-up.
New South Wales chased down Victoria’s 107 in the 43rd over, making it back-to-back triumphs.
“We made just over 100 runs but the outfield was slow so it was an OK total for the ground and it hadn’t been a high-scoring tournament,” Gemma said.
Gemma said New South Wales batsman Ashleigh Gardner made 30 batting at first drop.
“It was up and down from there,” she said.
“It was a really tight game but the statistics didn’t show it.”
