Terang easily accounted for the previously undefeated Port Fairy at home, walking away with a 21-shot victory, 79-58.
It wasn’t the only upset for the round, with City Memorial celebrating its fourth-placed gold team’s win over the second place Warrnambool Gold. 81-65.
Terang only lost one rink for the day, with Margaret Sunmer going down 25 to 21.
The loss was made up for by a dominant performance in Jean Fidge’s rink (33-19).
Skipper Sumner said it was an exciting victory.
“It was a good win,” she said.
‘‘We’re very excited, that’s for sure.
“To have a win over Port Fairy, who were undefeated is great.
‘‘We lost my rink, but it was really close.
“I was only one down on the second last end, but she caught the kitty and ended up finishing four shots up.”
City Memorial was celebrating three victories yesterday, with the Gold, Blue and Green sides winning.
Club spokeswoman Karina Ellery said results from yesterday’s matches could shake up the ladder in the lead-up to finals.
“There are plenty of cheers in the room here today, the Christmas break must have agreed with us,” she said yesterday.
“The results will be very interesting and with two rounds until finals it’s going to shake things up a bit.”
In the other matches City Memorial Green easily accounted for Warrnambool Blue, 85-60 and City Memorial Blue defeated Timboon 83-58
Ellery said City Memorial Gold faced a tough test next week when it hits the road and takes on Port Fairy while City Memorial Green is also away from home, taking on Terang.
“They are going to be tough and important games,” she said.
“We’ll just have to play the cards as they fall.”
