Turf2Surf invites farming families to camp for free at Surfside Holiday Park in Warrnambool from January 31 to February 2.
The inaugural event is an initiative of the Leadership Great South Coast Alumni 2013 and is designed as a fun way to help farmers look after themselves.
“It provides them an opportunity to get off their farms, spend time with their family and enjoy easy and free access to a number of health and well-being services,” Turf2Surf team leader Sally Obst said.
Mrs Obst said the project was developed as part of a Leadership Great South Coast program day around health and welfare.
“We’re hoping as part of this project we’ll develop a report that looks at how farmers found it (the experience).”
The project leaders will also assess if the farmers felt they had a break and became more aware of health and well-being services.
“As a project team we found it quite difficult to contact health and well-being services and know where to start,” Mrs Obst said.
“Turf2Surf will be a one- stop shop for those.”
Free activities will include a Friday night meet and greet with cheese and wine, Saturday morning breakfast and health checks, a children’s activities afternoon, fitness activities and a farewell breakfast Sunday morning.
“On Saturday night we will have a barbecue dinner with guest speaker Dr Bernie Crimmins,” Mrs Obst said.
Dr Crimmins is a GP and author of Blokes’ Health 2: a doctor’s guide to the 3Ds.
