With an Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) score of 98.6, Mortlake’s Sara Bolch was fairly confident she would clear the threshold for an arts degree at the University of Melbourne — but that didn’t stop her nerves from jangling.
“The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) website was down so I had to go on to The Age website,” she said.
“Even though I got in on the ATAR score I was still a bit anxious.”
The weight was lifted after she saw her name next to an offer from the university.
Not one to waste time, the Mortlake P-12 College dux has spent summer working on the Holiday Actors production of High School Musical.
“I really like performing, maybe screen-writing and creative writing (for the arts degree),” she said.
Across the state up to 56,000 students received VTAC offers yesterday afternoon.
Premier and South West Coast MP Denis Napthine said numbers stepping on to campuses had boosted this year. “It is fantastic to see that there are more students studying at university today than ever before, with 56,000 students set to receive an offer, an increase of two per cent on 2013,” Dr Napthine said.
Meanwhile, Ms Bolch said she’d do her best to get her head back into the books.
“I’ll have to start writing to get back into the zone, although I know that’s a bit nerdy,” she said.
