Wilson, 36, wanted to see her daughter Anna finish the 6km race for the first time.
Anna, 9, ran the shorter distance with Wilson’s close friend April Haberfield.
Wilson said her win was a surprise, given she only entered the run last week.
“I was hoping for about 39 minutes and I got 37.45, so it was really good,” she said.
“I was actually nearly not going to do it this year.
“People put a lot of pressure on me and I thought, I don’t like that.”
Wilson’s 10km win ended another Warrnambool runner’s stranglehold on the event.
Ella Gill, who won the past three crowns, finished second in 38.16. Respected Warrnambool runner Jenny Dowie (41.46) was third.
Wilson said she was surprised to beat Gill but was solely focused on reaching her own goals.
“If I had’ve beat her and not got the time I wanted I wouldn’t have been happy,” she said.
Wilson, who prefers marathon and half-marathons events, said weather conditions were manageable.
“There was a bit of wind but it wasn’t too bad,” she said.
“I mean, you don’t like it at the time but it was nothing severe.”
