Adelaide skippers hold the top three positions after eight of the 10 races on Warrnambool’s Lady Bay.
Michael Thomson, aboard his Fireball yacht Kiss, has a two-point lead and is in the box seat to claim overall honours.
Thomson has 15 points, having won four races. He has finished no lower than third in the other four in a convincing display on the water.
Hot on his heels is Greg Allison aboard AEG, with 17 points, while John Heywood aboard Renegade is third with 24 points.
Sailors collect points based on their finishing positions, with the lowest total prevailing. A win is worth one point, second two points and so on.
The final two races are today, with action getting under way at noon before a presentation tonight.
Warrnambool Yacht Club commodore Don Allen said the standings made for a down-to-the-wire finish.
“At the moment, based on the scores, they all have to sail (on the last day),” he said yesterday.
“Sometimes they don’t have to sail but the results at the moment, two points in it, they all have to sail.”
Allen said weather conditions enabled racing possible on three of the four days since Friday.
“Today was pretty light, light being not much wind, smoother seas than yesterday,” he said.
“Yesterday (Sunday) was pretty messy. Good, but pretty messy.”
