The blaze burnt out about three hectares of scrub at the Bay of Islands car park, four kilometres west of the Peterborough township.
Peterborough CFA, the Department of Environment and Primary Industries and Parks Victoria monitored the scene on Saturday for fear the fire could reignite in the heat of the total fire ban day.
Bill Richmond, first lieutenant with the Peterborough CFA, said six hours was spent on Saturday dousing hot spots.
“We were expecting a strong wind change, which took place about 2pm, so we didn’t have long,” he said.
“It was difficult to get hoses in there — it was in heavy scrub.”
Mr Richmond said it appeared the blaze seemed to start from “three separate fires lit in that area simultaneously”.
