Both the SES and CFA are discussing plans to move to the Port Fairy ambulance station site on the Princes Highway with paramedics potentially relocating to Moyne Health Services. Decisions hinge on $4 million in applications with the state government for the hospital facelift.
Moyne Health Services CEO David Lee said the hospital was waiting on the CFA and Ambulance Victoria.
“My understanding is that the facility is a little small for them (the CFA),” Mr Lee said.
Ambulance Victoria is yet to decide if it will move to the hospital, although a new station has been included in blueprints.
Mr Lee said he hoped to hear back on the application “within the next two weeks”.
Port Fairy SES captain Stephen McDowell said a recent recruitment drive has seen an extra 11 members added to the unit’s ranks.
“The space we’ve got is adequate but the building we’re in is reaching the end of its life,” Mr McDowell said.
The Port Fairy CFA has 20 active members but space for little more than the truck at the station.
“We work with the SES all the time so it would make sense to be in the same building,” captain Garth Palmer said.
