More than 100 people are expected to gather at St Brigid’s Hall in Crossley for a Peter’s Project function, with some of the best Irish and Scottish bands in the district set to entertain.
Organisers Martin Ruane and Jo Brookes said the event had been inspired by their good friend Corey Henderson, 32, who had been diagnosed with melanoma.
“He’s been given about 12 months to live,” Mr Ruane said.
“We had the idea about six months ago.
“We thought let’s have it while you’re able to enjoy it. While it’s not too late.”
Mr Ruane said it was hoped the concert would ensure the community knew how prevalent cancer was. “My main reason is for Corey to enjoy it to the fullest,” he said.
“I asked him does he want cash from the door and he said he’d prefer the money go to Peter’s Project.
“Hopefully we can make aware the impact cancer has on the whole of society. I lost my sister to it.
“I think everyone has been touched. There are not too many families that haven’t.”
There will be performances by Shane Howard with Na Laoch, Lex’s Shed, Cill-Airne, Likely Celts, The Kilmurphys and Peter Moir and Crew.
The Warrnambool Junior Pipe Band will kick off the show at 6.30pm. Friends of St Brigid’s Hall will provide a barbecue, there will be a bar available and people can BYO.
Admission is $15 for adults and children are free. All money raised from the door will go to Peter’s Project.
