Michael Wilson, 29, previously of Rundell Avenue in Portland, was committed to stand trial in the Warrnambool County Court on one charge of armed robbery and one charge of using a drug of dependence.
The prosecution alleged Wilson used a kitchen knife to rob a pharmacy in Portland on July 22 this year.
During the committal hearing a pharmacist told the court he was putting medication away at the end of the day when he first noticed a man entering the shop.
He said the man had a 20cm kitchen-type knife and when asked what he wanted he said oxycontin.
The pharmacist grabbed a handful of boxes and gave them to the man.
He told the court the offender had his face covered with a dark jumper and had a particular feature of his voice which led to his identification.
A sales assistant told the court she noticed the man had a knife in his left hand and a black stocking over his head.
She said Wilson was a regular customer and she recognised his particular walk.
Wilson pleaded not guilty to armed robbery and not guilty to possessing a drug of dependence.
The court heard Wilson is currently serving a sentence in custody for theft and driving offences. He is due to be released in April 2014.
Yesterday magistrate Jonathan Klestadt refused a bail application, meaning Wilson would not be bailed in April on his release date.
He was remanded to appear in Geelong County Court for a directions hearing on March 7, 2014.
