MORE north-east Warrnambool residents have come forward with complaints about a mysterious noise that keeps them awake at night.
All related the common theme of a low-tone intermittent sound at night, but none could pinpoint the cause.
Some suggested water system pumps, others a diesel engine and even mooing cows in the distance.
"I thought I was going mad until I read that others had also heard the noise," said 85-year-old Mavis Campbell of Cherlin Drive.
"It's been affecting my health and blood pressure and has been going on for a few years.
"I would describe it as a pulsating sound like a diesel engine."
Debbie of St James Crescent said even ear plugs couldn't block the low humming noise.
"I reckon the sound travels through the sandstone ridge," she said.
Barry of Wiggs Lane described it as like the buzzing of a fluorescent tube.
A former Balmoral Road resident said she and her mother were disturbed by strange noises and believed they traced it to cows near King's College.
