Now she is back in the classroom as a tertiary level lecturer with a PhD to her name.
Ms Rowlands received her PhD at Deakin University’s annual graduation ceremony in Warrnambool on Friday.
Completing the circle, her research was into university governance. “I had been in a role managing university governance across Deakin campuses for more than 15 years and felt it was time for a change,” Ms Rowlands said.
“I had always wanted to do more study and in 2008 resigned from my role with Deakin and was lucky enough to secure a scholarship to study full-time for three years,” she said. “I loved studying, it was the happiest three years of my life.”
Ms Rowlands was a secondary school teacher for five years in Warrnambool before taking on her management role.
In 2012 she had the opportunity to return to the classroom with the School of Education at the Deakin University Warrnambool campus.
