The next step will be forming the “Ignite” committee — a group of 12- to 25-year-olds who will be responsible for developing and delivering Freeza events.

The council’s recreation and youth co-ordinator Kim White said the committee was a great opportunity for young people to contribute to their community by staging music, arts, culture and recreational activities and shows. 

“We often hear young people say they want to be heard, they want to have a voice, and Ignite will give them a chance to do that and more,” she said.

“This group of creative young people will essentially become the decision makers for youth events and opportunities in our region. It really is a very exciting opportunity.”

Kulcha Shift and the council will be looking for young people with a broad range of interests and skills.

Successful applicants will take part in monthly planning meetings and training sessions, gaining skills in event management and leadership to help them run the events they create.
