Recruitment for the 413 Warrnambool squadron will start later this week.
Squadron commander Flying Officer Paul Marsland said there were already 70 cadets in 413 squadron, which was established in August last year.
“The program offers cadets the opportunity to participate in many structured adventure training and ceremonial activities that others in the community do not have access to,” Flying Officer Marsland said.
“The cadets wear uniforms reflective of the Royal Australian Air, and are regular participants in public ceremonial parades and services on Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, Vietnam Veterans’ Day and Australia Day.”
Cadets also learn about aviation, field craft, service knowledge, bush survival, aero modelling, navigation and radio communications.
“While we have an overall aviation theme our main aim is community and career development,” Flying Officer Marsland said.
He said a drum corps and band was also being developed to cater to those with musical interests. Camps extend from weekends training in the bush to weeks spent on RAAF bases around the country. “In January seven cadets completed a two-week promotion training camp at the Laverton RAAF base, returning holding the rank of cadet corporal,” he said.
“This was not an easy course to complete and the cadets should be praised for their efforts.”
Flying Officer Mr Marsland said a recruit information evening will be held tomorrow night at the Tel el Eisa barracks on Pertobe Road from 7pm.
