The first United in Dance fund-raiser will bring together local groups Ballroom Blitz, Do Ya Wanna Dance company, Meen Keel Gypsies Belly Dancers, Melissa’s Dance Elements and O’Shea-Ryan Irish Dancers at Warrnambool College.
The night was born after ballroom dancer and event organiser Sharon Grundy, 43, decided it was time the dance world stepped up and did its part for the organisation that helps brighten the lives of sick young children.
“I thought, wouldn’t it be lovely if all the different dance groups in Warrnambool got together to raise some money for Make-A-Wish,” Mrs Grundy said. “All money that is raised through ticket and raffle sales will go to the foundation to help grant a sick child’s wish.”
As well as dance presentations, the various groups hope to get the crowd involved with short lessons to follow each performance. Bowka and Zumba demonstrations will also run throughout the night.
Hal Greer, of the ’60s rock’n’roll styled Do Ya Wanna Dance company, cannot wait to get the audience up dancing.
“We want people to have fun and be social and dancing is a big part of that,” Mr Greer said.
United in Dance will run from 7pm to 11pm on February 23 at Warrnambool College Hall with ticket sales at the door.
