When Warrnambool woman Liz Alderson takes to the court for Sonic, she will be joined by her three daughters, 18-year-old Sarah, 16-year-old Rachel and 15-year-old Marli.
To add to the team’s family flavour, mother and daughter combo Julie and Laura Roberts will also take to the court. Tamara Bull rounds out the seven-woman team.
Alderson said she had been playing with Julie in the competition “for years” and it was only in the past couple of season their daughters had joined them.
“For the past two seasons, my two older girls have been playing with us,” she said.
“But this year someone else decided they weren’t going to play, so Marli joined us as well.”
Alderson said Sonic had played in the grand final the past two seasons.
“What they have done for the past couple of years is play the A1 and A grade in the one competition,” she said.
“So they take the top two teams and they then become the A grade grand finalists.”
She said it was the social aspect of the competition that kept her going back each year.
“We have been playing for years,” she said. “I’ve always played netball, so it’s a good way to stay involved in the sport and the social aspect is great as well.”
Grand final action will get under way from 6.30pm tonight at the Warrnambool Netball Stadium.
