Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine announced yesterday the state government would deliver on an election promise to reinstate the full-time position.
“Having a dedicated ranger will improve facilities at the park, create a more positive experience for visitors and bring more tourists to Tower Hill and south-west Victoria,” Dr Napthine said.
“This ranger’s focus will be on working closely with volunteers, traditional owners, and the broader community to progressively restore and improve the visitor experience for locals and tourists.
“The ranger will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Tower Hill State Game Reserve, including interacting with visitors, maintaining facilities, protecting natural and cultural values, implementing pest control programs, fire protection activities and working with the local community.”
The government also announced a full-time ranger for Mount Eccles National Park.
“Of particular importance to the dedicated ranger role will be maintaining and enhancing strong connections with the Budj Bim Council and the Macarthur Advancement Development Association,” Dr Napthine said.
“Having locally-based rangers will provide a real boost to tourism and visitation to the region as well as improving the day-to-day management of these national parks.”
