Suspects with more than $250,000 cash or $2 million in assets will now be subject to a court restraining order if they cannot explain how they made their money.

Deputy Premier and Police Minister Paul Toole said the bill that passed on Thursday was part of a broader suite of reforms designed to provide police with what they needed to tackle organised crime in 2022.

"These are the state's toughest ever organised crime laws and will cut organised criminals off at the source, incapacitating them financially so they can no longer reap the benefits of their insidious crimes," Mr Toole said on Friday.

The government has okayed a series of strict new laws in recent months after a slew of public murders linked to organised crime gangs across Sydney.

The new laws include targeting digital encrypted devices favoured by criminals, tattoo licences, and money laundering.

The laws put NSW in a world-leading position as police worked against organised crime, Mr Toole said.

"Gone are the days when criminal gangs can slip under the radar and hide their ill-gotten gains," he added.

"If you are living the high life off the proceeds of crime, expect a knock at the door from police with a warrant to seize your most prized possessions."

The new reforms would be invaluable to police, leaving gang members targeted from every angle, NSW Acting Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said.

"We will seize their illegally acquired assets, take away their loopholes, and ban their methods of communication," Mr Lanyon added.
