The out-of-contract Gold Coast forward has nominated the Dockers as his preferred destination after four seasons and 36 games at the Suns.
Corbett - from North Warrnambool Eagles - will now await a trade deal between the two clubs.
Fremantle, which is looking to bolster its attack after making a semi-final this year, is also interested in Corbett's Suns teammate Jeremy Sharp who would fill a wing role.
Dockers executive general manager of football Peter Bell said the club was excited to potentially bring Corbett in.
"We had the pleasure of having Josh and his partner Mikayla over for the weekend and showed them around Perth and the club," he said.
"It's great to hear he's indicated his preference would be to come to Fremantle given he did have a couple of potential suitors."
Bell said Corbett had strong attributes as a goal-kicking option.
"We see him as a lead-up forward who's put together some really consistent football in the VFL this year and the AFL previously," he said.
"He's got a high work rate, and he's got great character that will add to the group.
"We'll get to work through David Walls and his team to see what could be facilitated with Gold Coast."
Corbett, now 26, was a mature-age recruit for Gold Coast and made his AFL debut in 2019.
He had a career-best season in 2021, kicking 23 goals from 16 matches.
If Corbett lands at the Dockers he will join fellow south-west export Sean Darcy (Cobden) at the club.
The AFL trade period runs until next Wednesday.
