Sergeant Jason von Tunk said the offenders gained entry to freezer in a garage shed at Scott Street and stole one frozen roast beef and a couple of bags of sausages.
"The meat was from a home kill and is distinctively packaged," he said.
"We'll be on the lookout for who's having a barbecue in Heywood this week."
Sergeant von Tunk said thieves also entered two unlocked vehicles in nearby Barclay Street overnight Tuesday and stole the contents of glove compartments and small amounts of cash.
"The offences have all happened on the same night in a small area and we believed the thefts are related," he said.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Heywood police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
