Warrnambool enjoyed a strong showing from its surf athletes at Saturday's prestigious Jim Wall Iron event in Torquay.
Sophie Thomas, who competed under a Torquay cap, claimed her first Jim Wall Open Female Iron, with Warrnambool Surf Lifesaving Club talent Mia Cook taking out third place at 15. Ex-Victorian Grace Harris finished runner-up.

"It was an exciting race, the board and ski legs, all three were about equal," Warrnambool Surf Lifesaving Club's Director of Surf Sports John Cook said.
"Sophie's surf skills were probably the point of difference; she swam away, got a wave and body surfed it to the line. That left Grace and Mia to fight it out for second and third."
Earlier in the day, Mia, a board specialist, claimed firsts in the open and under 17 board events, before earning third in the under 17 ski.

Warrnambool's Alex Johnstone, Steve Kerr and Todd Lamb celebrated a third place podium in the open male ski relay, with Kerr first and third in the open male board and open male ski events.
Darcy Bridgewater rounded out the podium placings, winning the under 17 male board.
Cook said the club was "incredibly proud" of each of the competitors efforts.
Anglesea on January 16 looms as the next event for many, while Mia heads to North Bondi for the Super Surf Teams League starting January 14.
