That was the situation facing Warrnambool Blue tailenders Jarrod Ferguson and Izsak Dean as they navigated a tricky situation at Horsham under 15 country week on Tuesday.

Scores were tied on 186 entering the 50^th over against Hamilton.

Ferguson, who opens the batting for Nirranda but was playing at number 10 for the representative side, scored the winning run.

"Scores were level for the last two overs," Warrnambool Blue coach Jason Mungean said.

"Jarrod clipped one through mid-wicket and they mis-fielded and we got a run.

"He got run out going for the second but one was all we needed."

Mungean praised Ferguson and Dean, who made three off nine balls, for their calmness under pressure.

"Izsak had to block out the second last over and they were all pretty full and straight and he respected them and Jarrod, I think it was on the second ball of the over, got a single, much to our relief," he said.

"Jarrod opens for Nirranda so we understood he can bat and Iszak bats reasonably high (at club level too), so we knew they could handle the stick, it was just whether they could handle the pressure and they both did it pretty well."

Hamilton put itself in a commanding position in batting first with Edward McShane blasting 95 off 123 deliveries, including six fours.

Mungean said McShane produced a near chanceless innings.

Sam Allen, the match-winner for Warrnambool Blue on day one, took 2-18.

Opener Matthew Gome, who made 55 in the team's first game, contributed another 47 runs in Blue's run chase.

But Mungean, who Wesley Yambuk's division one coach in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association, said it then went a bit pear-shaped.

"We were in a little bit of trouble. I think we were 7-130 and then we had a couple of little partnerships," he said.

"Archer Boyle and Ryan Mottram probably put on 30 or 40 runs and got the total right up to only needing three or four to win and then we lost a couple (of wickets) and the last two got us over the line."

Warrnambool Gold, which defeated Western Barbarians, was watching on and joined the Blue side on the field to celebrate the nail-biting win.

Gold produced a 171-run win against the Barbarians to also be 2-0 after the opening two days of competition.

Jett Grayland was important in making 53 before he was run out and Toby Madden finished unbeaten on 42 as the Jeremy Alexander-coached side posted 7-238.

Hamish Alexander was effective with 3-5 and Sam Rhodes plucked 2-4 as Western Barbarians were dismissed for 67 in reply.

Jimmy Duxson made 54 as Wimmera-Mallee accounted for Portland by 115 runs.

South West played a later game against Horsham.
