Moor learnt the ropes from his old Warrnambool boss Robert Blacker and on Saturday he repaid the trainer by winning the $200,000 listed Bagot Handicap on Tigertiger at Flemington.

"Tigertiger's win in the Bagot was Robert's biggest race win as a trainer and I'm glad I was there to ride it," the one-eyed Carlton fan told The Standard.

"Robert was my first boss many years ago. His guidance in my early years helped set up my career.

"I've got wonderful memories growing up in Warrnambool. Blokes like Robert, Peter Lafferty, Paul Richards, Billy Nolan, Neville Wilson, Trevor Murphy and the late Jocka Baillie were really instrumental in helping me in those early years."

Tigertiger beat Skelm by a neck with Long Arm back in third place in the time-honoured Bagot.

Moor said the New Zealand-bred stayer switched off if he got cover in his races.

"I was ultra patient on Tigertiger," he said.

"I just wanted to make sure he ran out the 2800 metres.

"He had fresh legs and had done no work in the run so he hit the long strongly."

Blacker, who is now based at Mornington, said he might consider a start in the Adelaide Cup for Tigertiger.

Moor rode two winners at Victoria's first metropolitan race meeting for 2022 on Saturday.

His other winner was Unique Artist.

Winslow-raised Ciaron Maher and his training partner David Eustace took the honours with three winners at Flemington on New Year's Day.

They won with Latizia at her debut in a two-year-old fillies race over 1000 metres.

Lighthouse was too strong for her rivals in winning the Chester Manifold Stakes while Pioneer River took out the last of nine races for Victoria's leading trainers.
